  1. HINS 6-Cavity Test 3 Month PlanJan 12, 2012

  2. Current Schedule • 2-3 day shutdown scheduled to start Jan 18 (Wednesday) to upgrade BPM system and reinstall slits and fast Faraday cup. • Shutdown for H- upgrade scheduled to start Feb 6 (Monday). • Estimate 3-4 weeks to finish all upgrade mechanical work. • Lab shutdown still scheduled to start March 1. • Main injector quads may be reclaimed at the end of March. • New klystron scheduled to arrive in early spring.

  3. BPM Upgrade Shutdown • Install buttons on all blanked off BPM ports. • Replace cavity wire scanner with a BPM. • Install new can for slit scanner and fast Faraday cup. New BPM Location New can Location

  4. Pre-upgrade Studies • Perform cavity phase scans using new BPM. • Tune cavities to specified amplitude and phases, and measure beam emittance using quadrupoles and slits. • Document final settings before H- shutdown.

  5. More realistic (?) schedule • Feb 1st, H- source to alignment • Depends on how much time needed for alignment • Simply need to be early enough • Feb 3rd, last H+ run • Feb 6th, start removing H+ source • Mostly electrical first (cables and such), then mechanical (source and stand out) • Feb 16th, new stand installed • Feb 24th, H- source installed • Includes vacuum connected (may be not pumped down) • Includes all electrical connections • Feb 27th, alignment • Feb 28th, start commissioning • HV => Plasma => Beam 3 weeks

  6. Other HINS Shutdown Activities • Waveguide distribution from klystron to test area will be removed. Klystron will only power beam line. • Modify klystron interlocks, to remove monitoring of RF test areas. • Complete documentation necessary for remote operation of facility. • LLRF work on vector modulator feed-forward.

  7. H- Startup • Will start (hopefully) sometime in early March, contingent upon good vacuum, working power supplies, controls, and safety approval. • May need a week to optimize LEBT for best RFQ transmission. • Retune cavities for transmission to diagnostic line. • Measure emittance of new beam with slit scanner.

  8. Loss of MI Quadrupoles • NOVA project will want the spare MI quads when they are ready to construct magnet girders. • Present commitment date is end of March. • This will render diagnostic line and Buncher 2 useless, but RF work and beam through Cavity 4 can continue. These quads go away.

  9. Other Items During AD Shutdown • Complete 6-cavity test with vector modulator controls. • New klystron due to arrive in spring. Current plan is to swap out klystrons (will this require mech. support?). • Complete beam line design for 2.1MeV chopper test.
