On your periodic table, locate and color in the following elements with one map pencil or crayon: Group 13: B Group 14: Si and Ge Group 15: As and Sb Group 16: Te and Po Group 17: At
These elements are called • Metalloids • Notice how it looks like they form a stair step? They actually divide the metals and non-metals on the periodic table. • They have properties of both metals and non-metals.
Stop now and take time to create a color key for your periodic table! Your color key should look something like this: Metalloids
Now using a different colored map pencil or crayon, locate and color in the elements you see colored red on the next page:
These elements are called • Non Metals • Notice how Hydrogen is all by itself on the left-hand side of the periodic table • All the way on the other side of the Periodic Table, in Group 18, you will find the Noble Gases.
