Highlights of MEDLINE • MEDLINE is a database of citations to published biomedical journal articles. • MEDLINE has almost 19 million citations since 1946 • Currently, citations from approximately 5,600 worldwide journals in 39 languages • NLM analyzes the content of MEDLINE articles and assigns Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) to MEDLINE citations.

MEDLINE Basic Bibliographic Citation Journal Source Information Title of the journal article Names of the Authors First Author Affiliation Abstract published with the article Language in which the article was published Publication Type (description of the type of article, e.g., Review, Letter, etc.) Controlled Vocabulary search terms (Medical Subject Headings)

  6. MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms reflect the content of the article. NLM assigns the most specific term possible. Country identified You can search PubMed using MeSH.

  7. Subheadings are used with MeSH headings to be more specific. * = a major concept.
