Positive Incentives • Student of the month: Your child will have the opportunity to receive the honor of being the student of the month by not getting no more than three sticks and helping at least three classmate through out the month. He/ She will receive a certificate from the principal, picture on the bulletin board and a special treat during lunch. • North Stars: Your child will have the opportunity to earn North Star Tickets daily. They can be used to purchase treats, extra recess and the big reward • Points: Your child will sit in a cooperative learning group and earn points by exhibiting appropriate school behavior. At the end of the day one group will receive a reward. • Marbles: The class will be able to place a marble in the jar every time they receive a compliment from an adult in the building. When the marbles reach the reward line the children will have a mini-party, which can be popcorn & movie, games, cookies &milk, etc. Parent Note: Birthdays Parties and Field Trips are considered to be positive incentives.
Behavior Management System • The behavior management system that is in place is to prevent inappropriate behavior from escalating into destructive behavior that requires administrative action. Craft sticks will be used as the visual tracking tool. • 1 stick- Verbal Warning • 2 sticks- 5 minutes from recess or cooperative learning group • 3 sticks – 10 minutes from recess or cooperative learning group • 4 sticks- 15 minutes from recess and the duration of the day will be spent away from his/her cooperative learning group. Informal meeting with principal and the parent will be contacted • Parent Note: Tantrums lasting longer than 1 minute and other destructive behavior such as hitting, kicking, biting and screaming will result in an immediate phone call home as well as removal from cooperative learning group until negative behavior subsides.
