MAPTB • Formed to help the Government in identifying and treating TB patients. • Received financial aid from Social Welfare Lottery Sales • Set up TB sanatoriums to isolate TB patients
In Perak, MAPTB has 9 braches in the 9 districts • MAPTB work closely with State Health Departments
Made of administrative committee members • Ex-officio from health department, welfare and education department
Members pay minimal subscription • Elections held to elect office-bearer. • Committee meetings at regular intervals
Activities of MAPTB at district level • T.A.S • DOTS • World TB Day • Festive cheer for TB patients • Work with other NGO’s • Work with other Government agencies • International collaboration
T.A.S • Treatment allowance scheme • RM 50 – RM 100 per patient, per month • Committee must approve • Only to deserving candidates • Motivate poor patients to complete treatment
DOTS • Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse • Volunteers are taught about DOTS • Visit patients in their homes to observe treatment • Teach the carer about TB & Treatment
World TB day • Falls on 24th March • Work with State and District Health Office • Exhibitions, awareness, quiz, posters, phamphlets • Lung functions tests, free medical examination
Festive Cheers • Food hampers during festivals • Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and Christmas • Ang Pow, clothing, singing • Publicity in the newspapers
Work with other NGO’s • Work together with MMA, Diabetes Association, Rotary, Lions Clubs, and also with religious bodies • Medical personnel will speak about TB • Free medical advice and screening
Work with other Government agencies • Welfare – seek welfare aid to poor TB patients, monetary aid, food aid, refer to welfare homes • Education – Awareness campaign in school – Workshop for teachers
International Collaboration • Asia Pacific IUALTD • World Assn of Lung Diseases (IUALTD) • Attend conferences, share ideas and gain knowledge • Organise world conference • Malaysia to host 2007 Asia Pacific IUALTD
