Analysis of Educational Researches of SSA Uttarakhand Purpose : To understand the processes and use of educational research conducted by SSA Process • Study of Documents – EoI, ToR, Study Proposals, Research Reports • Formal/Informal discussions with SIEMAT faculties • Informal discussion with Research Agencies working with SIEMAT • Own experience of working with State Government
Analysis of Educational Researches of SSA Uttarakhand Key Observations • Mechanism in place to conduct researches but it has some fundamental issues. • Research topics are not explored in a Methodical manner • Research Agencies are identified based on Financial Proposal. • Most of the studies are evaluation studies • No mechanism to incorporate research recommendations in policy/program • SIEMAT is the only institution facilitating research studies, but - • Has provision of only one HoD, One Professional and one Jr. Professional • No research background of any of these people.
Analysis of Educational Researches of SSA Uttarakhand Needs to be Addressed… • Research orientation of SIEMAT Faculties of Research and Evaluation Department. • Support in developing framework to identify appropriate research agencies and implementation of research studies • Advocacy to incorporate research recommendations in policies and increasing program effectiveness. teacher profile.doc; MDM. Teacher motivation • Promoting need based and practitioner based researches. • Advocacy for provision of adequate Research Faculties in SIEMAT to facilitate a variety of researches.

Researches to Understand Context/Situation, Processes and Influence • Researches conducted to Understand Context • LGP Baseline to understand learning achievements • Baseline to understand functioning and effectiveness of academic institutions. • Baseline to understand classroom processes in schools. • Learning Level Assessment across the State. • Perception of stakeholders to conceptualize AzimPremji State Institute. • Developmental Need Assessment (DNA) of School Leaders (in process).
Foundation’s Research Engagements in Uttarakhand • Understanding Processes • Perception of teachers, parents/guardians and children on child friendly competency based assessment. • BTC Research – to understand transactions of BTC Curriculum at DIET, Understanding DIET Faculties’ and Student-teachers’ perception on its appropriateness. (in process) • Action Research to understand the possibility of developing teachers as reflective practitioner through action research. (in process)
Foundation’s Research Engagements in Uttarakhand • To see Effectiveness of Programmes • Endline of Learning Guarantee Program. • Annual Summative Assessment of Children. • Secondary data analysis to draw trends, projections to alert system and society.
Plan of Research Team • Self Capacity Enhancement through - • Institutions • Participation in Course on Research • Self Learning • Participation in Research Studies • Reading at-least two articles every month and share the same in team • Reading at-least one book on research on quarterly basis and sharing in large group • Engage each team member in research studies • Participation of all team members in conceptualize, data collection and analysis of research studies
Plan of Research Team • Institutional and Individual Capacity Enhancement of SSA • Organizing short duration Research Courses • Planning to design need based course for DIET faculties • Two-Day workshop conducted on Analysis of Open Ended response. • Participation of Edu. functionaries in Research studies • DIET/DPO Faculties participated in DNA of School Leaders. • SCERT Faculties will be part of D.El.Ed. Baseline in July. • SSA and DIET Faculties participated in BTC Research. • Promoting Action Researches • Action Research – Direct Engagement with Teachers/Organizing action research workshop.
Plan of Research Team • Promoting Context Specific Educational researches through • Creating network among research institutions, Universities and line departments. • Promoting need based researches among future research scholars.
