Why It Began • The Winnipeg General Strike began on May 15th 1919 • It began because of bad working conditions and employers weren't paying there employees enough. • In 1918 Workers went to the city's council and asked for an increase in pay. The city's council declined so the workers went on strike
Bloody Saturday • Bloody Saturday was on June 21st • 2 people were killed and 27 were injured • Bloody Saturday was a huge riot near the end of the Winnipeg General Strike • The riots took place mainly outside the city's council
Riots on Bloody Saturday • 2 men died on bloody Saturday while on strike. • Mike Sokolowiski was killed while throwing a rock at mounted police • Steve Schezerbanowes was trampled in the riots • 27 people were injured
