“Some Mocked” • Acts 17:32 “And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, ‘We will hear you again on this matter.’” • : 32-34 • Saduceeswere “sad-you-see”
Consequences if No Resurrection • No resurrection-Jesus would not have risen (Romans 1:4). • 1Peter 3:21 “There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” • 1Corinthians 15:19 “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” • 1Peter 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
“We Will Not Walk Therein” • God gives us safe paths to walk • Jeremiah 6:16 “Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” • Romans 6:4 “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
A Christian needs to walk God’s ways. • 1John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” • Ephesians 4:1 “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.” • Ephesians 5:1-2 “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” • 1Thessalonians 4:10-12 “But we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; 11 that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, 12 that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.”
“Who Have Strayed Concerning the Truth” • 2Timothy 2:17-18 “And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.” • James 5:19-20 “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soulfrom death and cover a multitude of sins.”
(John 8:32) says the truth will set us free and (Romans 6:17-18) says that through obedience to the doctrine of Christ, we are free from sin. • But Jesus said in John 8:34 that “whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.” • And (Romans 6:23) says that “the wages of sin is death”. • (2Timothy 2:17-18) teaches that our sin can cause others faith to be overthrown.
“Concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck” • 1Timothy 1:18-20 • 2Peter2:18-22 • The unloving, neglectful parent, 1Timothy5:8 • The Christian who stops fighting for the faith, 1Timothy 5:12 • The brother or sister who loses sight of heaven, money rule their lives, 1Timothy 6:10
“And the Door was shut” • Matthew25:1-13 • I believe that is one of the ways a Christian who falls away will be punished more than the non-Christian is by spending an eternity in regret • Amos 4:12 “Prepare to meet thy God”
“Go Away for Now” • Acts 24:25 “Now as he (Paul) reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix (Roman governor or procurator of Judea) was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”
“Almost” • Acts 26:28 “Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.” • Being almost saved is not enough. • 2Corinthians 5:11 “Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.”
Finally, “Depart from Me” • Matthew25:31-46 • Those who fail to use their talents and take opportunities to do good, :30. • People who are not benevolent and caring :31-46 • Those who choose not to obey, Matthew 7:21-23
Conclusion • If you’re not a Christian this morning, start with that change • If you are a Christian, don’t try to live by the words “Good enough”
