Unit 6 Vocabulary 2010 Traversing Congruency
Transversal • A line which intersects two or more lines.
Congruent • Angles or segments that have the same measure.
Vertical Angles • A pair of opposite congruent angles formed by intersecting lines.
Complementary Angles • Two angles whose measures add to 90˚.
Supplementary Angles • Two angles whose measures have a sum of 180˚.
Alternate Interior Angles • A pair of angles on the inner sides of two lines cut by a transversal that are on opposite sides of the transversal.
Alternate Exterior Angles • A pair of angles on the outer sides of two lines cut by a transversal that are on opposite sides of the transversal.
Corresponding Angles • Angles formed by a transversal cutting two or more lines and that are in the same relative position.
Adjacent Angles • Angles in the same plane that have a common vertex and a common side.
Same- Side Interior Angles • Angles which are on the inside of a pair of parallel lines and are on the same side of the transversal.
Same- Side Exterior Angles • Angles which are on the outside of a pair of parallel lines and are on the same side of the transversal.
Coincidental • Two lines that lie on top of each other.
Skew • Straight lines that do not intersect and are not in the same plane.
Parallel Lines • Lines in a plane that do not intersect.- stay the same distance apart.
Perpendicular Lines • Lines that intersect to form right angles.
Intersecting Lines • Lines that cross at exactly one point.
Linear Pair • Adjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines. The measure of these are always 180.
