  3. I. Matter and its Characteristics • Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space • Mass is a measurement that reflects the amount of matter

  5. Gravitational force is not the same everywhere on Earth and actually becomes less as you move away from sea level • Scientist use mass to measure matter so they can accurately compare measurements across the world
