‘Walk to Japan’ Project Commenced January 2010
Aims • Currently, 39% of our pupils walk to school each day. We are trying to increase this to 50%. • Children in Ballyclare Primary School are trying to walk to school every Friday. Each journey is approximately 1 mile. We are aiming to walk 6000 miles (the distance to Japan) by June. • At the end of February 2010 we have walked 826 miles. • Our project is called WOW! It means Walk Once a Week. WOW in English means that something is very exciting.
Parade in Your Pyjamas • To launch our project we encouraged all the children to walk to school in their pyjamas. Every child joined in, some carried teddies too. We gave prizes to the children. This was a great start to our project. Here are some photographs.
Notice Board • In our Assembly Hall we have a notice board which shows how many miles we have walked towards Japan. Here are some photographs.
Northern Ireland – each footstep means 200 miles. We have walked 800 miles so far.
