In a message to poachers, U.S will destroy its ivory. By:Justin Paplow
Who? African poachers The fish and wildlife service Robert Dreher:Acting assistant attorney general for the environment and natural resources. President Obama
What? African poachers have stockpiled illegal animal products since the ‘80’s such as elephant ivory, rhinoceros horns and tiger blood. Obama sends a message to poachers of zero tolerance to reduce illegal trafficking.
Where? National wildlife property repository Denver colorado National press building Washington D.C
Why? Poachers sell illegal artwork and objects since the United States is the second largest consumer of illegal animal products behind China. The National Wildlife Property Repository will destroy all illegally transported animal products from Africa so the sale of any more products will cease.
So what? This is connected to class because of the Lacey Act amendment prohibiting the trade of wildlife that have been illegally taken, transported, or sold.
