This article discusses the current state of gas transmittance measurement apparatus, focusing on the initial problems with outgassing of water and oxygen. It explores the absorption coefficient of water vapor and oxygen, and highlights the importance of drying out the sample chamber walls. The transition from an old sample chamber and PMT to a new one is also discussed.

Final Comments • In order to maintain sufficient transmission efficiency through the gas volume, the container walls must first be adequately degassed, where the water and oxygen concentrations are in the range of a few to 10 ppm.
