This program provides academic support and incentives for high achievement and student motivation at Cornell Middle/High School. It includes a bell schedule, Chief Time for extra help and make-up assignments, Academic Lunch, student privileges, and test retakes.

Chief Time 1 • Resource time for students to receive extra help from teachers. • Make-up assignments. • Students can be claimed by teachers. • Students (if not claimed) can request to be in a teacher’s room. • Students must attend the teacher’s Chief Time if claimed. • Sign up at the end of 4th hour. • Teachers will have a limit on the students in each room.

  6. Privileged Chief Time • If student is not claimed, and has not lost their privileges, they are able to go to privileged Chief Time • High School - Commons • Middle School - IMC • Middle School/High School - Gym • Phone use allowed • Talk with friends • Play games • Work on homework • Read a book

  7. Academic Lunch • Academic lunch is from Chief Time 1 through the lunch period. • Students will eat lunch in the designated room and remain there for all 50 minutes. High School: 11:04 - 11:54Middle School: 11:04 - 11:24 and 12:10 - 12:40 Who qualifies for Academic Lunch? • Student has missing assignments and does not need the teacher’s help. • Student does not go to, or utilize, the teacher’s Chief Time when claimed. • Student has to retake a test. • Student has to make-up a test.

Chief Time 2 • Resource time for students to receive extra help from teachers. • Make-up assignments. • Students can be claimed by teachers. • Students (if not claimed) can request to be in a teacher’s room. • Students must attend the teacher’s Chief Time if claimed. • Sign up at the end of 8th hour. • Teachers will have a limit on the students in each room.

  9. Student Privileges • Each student will receive a picture card and lanyard that MUST be available, at all times. • Students must maintain a C- or above. • Students must not have any in or out of school suspensions, and must not have been assigned 3 or more detentions. • Student must have no more than 1 unexcused absences and 3 parent excused absences per quarter. Appropriate medical and legal excuses will be allowed. • No current or pending Activity Code violations.

Senior Privileges • Lunch Open Campus (Must attend Chief Time 1 if claimed by teacher) • 9th Hour Release (Must attend Chief Time 2 if claimed by teacher) • Privileged Chief Time • Hats (no hoods!) • One bag of free popcorn at games • Raffled parking spots • Cell phone use in hallways and at meals • Dances • Extra-curricular participation • Lunch games • Raffles

Junior Privileges • 9th Hour Release (Must attend Chief Time 2 if claimed by teacher) • Privileged Chief Time • Hats (no hoods!) • One bag of free popcorn at games • Raffled parking spots • Cell phone use in hallways and at meals • Dances • Extra-curricular participation • Lunch games • Raffles

  15. No ZEROS! • Zeros will not be entered into the gradebook • All students will be required to complete all missing work • Chief Time 1 and 2 • Academic Lunch • Before or After School

Test Retakes • Students will be given 2 opportunities to retake tests. • Students MUST retake the test if they received a grade below a C-, everyone else has the opportunity to retake. • Students must retake test during one of the following times: • Before school • After school • Academic Lunch (50 minutes) • Students will not be allowed to retake a test during the class period, or during Chief Time. • Students will work with the teacher during Chief Time 1 and 2 to make sure they have an understanding of the material. • Each retake must be made up 5 school days after they received the grade. • 6th and 7th grade students are able to retest during 3rd hour.

  17. Cell Phones • Cell phones are NOT allowed into the classroom. • If a teacher sees the student’s phone, they will be written up. • Cell phones are allowed at Privileged Chief Time 1 and Privileged Chief Time 2 • Cell phones are allowed in the hallways and at meals IF the student has their privilege card.

  18. Backpacks • Backpacks are NOT allowed into the classrooms. • If a student chooses to carry a backpack between classes, it is to be left outside the classroom in a designated area.
