Printmaking Screen-printing & stencil design
Agenda • Go over what we did last time in class. • How to label a print & turn in • Go over notes for making a stencil • Finish painting screens if have not already. • If you are done with everything you will start your list of ideas for Ben Lomond stencils
Last time • We had a work day printing our logos. • You should have 3 prints to turn in and your screen.
Filling out a rubric & reflection • Use complete sentences when filling out the reflection. • Read through and grade yourself out of 4 on how you think you did. • Just remember a 4 means going above and beyond not just doing the bare minimum of the assignment.
Step 1 • Brainstorm things that represent Ben Lomond. • Example: bag pipes, mountain, scotty dog, etc. • You should have a list of at least 10 things
Step 2 • Draw imagery that goes with these things or stylize the BL
Step 3 • Once you have created your design you need to block it into shapes to be turned into a stencil. • Just like stencil letters you need to make sure everything is connected to the outside piece of paper.
Step 4 • Draw your design onto a transparency with vis-a-vi markers • Make it centered in the page
Step 5 • Cut the image out with an X-acto knife • You should cut at an angle so it will cut and not rip your transparency.
Step 6 • Spray paint or acrylic paint your prints. • Keep it 8 inches from the paper • Always have something behind it to keep the cement clean. • Thin layers of paint only, if you get too thick you will melt your stencil.
Work time • Print at least 3 prints. • Label correctly (shown to right) • Fill out rubric & reflection, paperclip together & turn in. • Make a list of 10 ideas on next available page for Ben Lomond theme. • Once done begin drawing ideas.
Reflection • Under where you put your starter answer the following questions • Did you finish your screen printing today? • If no, what can you do or when can you come in to finish? • Were you able to turn them in? • If you are just waiting for them to dry when will you turn them in? • Was there something that you struggled with on this project? • If yes what was it that you struggled with and were you able to overcome it?
