Biographies Books written about a person’s life. For example, a book about Gandhi’s life would be found in the Biography section. Lesson1: Vocabulary
Career Section with books about colleges and information about jobs or careers. For example, a book about nursing or the requirements to get into college would be found in the Career section. Lesson1: Vocabulary

What is Dewey? • What is the Dewey Decimal system? • It is the system of organizing books into 10 major categories. 000 General Knowledge 100 Philosophy and Psychology 200 Religion and Mythology 300 Social Science and Folklore 400 Language 500 Math and Science 600 Medicine and Technology 700 Arts and Recreation 800 Literature 900 Geography & History Lesson 2 Directions
Who has Dewey? • ALL books can have a Dewey Decimal number. However, some sections of Dewey Decimal system are put in their own section of the Media Center. They may be separated for your convenience or the section may be quite large. • Fiction would actually be in 813.In our media center, we have them under Fic for Fiction. • Biographies are separated from the 900’s. They are marked Bio for Biographies. • Graphic Novels would actually be 741.5. They are in their own section and marked GN. Lesson 2 Directions
What about the other sections? • The sections that are marked with Dewey Decimal numbers are Career, Nonfiction and Reference. • Using the Dewey Decimal system keeps these sections organized. Lesson 2 Directions

Call Numbers Remember the definition of a call number - A combination of numbers and/or letters that designate where a book is located. Most call numbers are on the spine (side) of a book. Fic Hin Lesson 3 Directions
Call Numbers – The Details • Biography Section Bio Designates Biography section Jor First three letters of person’s last name – ex: Michael Jordan • Career Section uses the Dewey Decimal System with the letters Car on the label. Car Designates Career section 378.7 Social Science category Ash First three letters of author/editor Lesson 3 Directions
