Before the visit • Make sure office knows where you are going and how long you will be there • Check mobile phone charged and speed dial emergency numbers entered • Check client risk assessment/other info before first visit • Ensure adequate petrol and vehicle in good condition before departing • Lock vehicle whilst driving • Do not leave items on seat

  3. Arriving at visit • Park in well-lit area in direction of exit travel • Do not enter if unrestrained, potentially aggressive animals • Before knocking listen for arguments or anything that may make you feel uneasy • Leave if any evidence of threat or safety issue • Drive away from premises before stopping and ringing manager to advise

  4. During the visit • If unfamiliar person opens door make sure client present before entering • Be aware of and know your exits – keep self between client and exit when possible • Keep keys and mobile phone on person • Don’t carry personal items not needed for visit • Leave if any evidence of threat • Use any PPE or safety equipment provided

  5. Transporting Clients • Check mobility needs prior to visit • Ensure clients seated appropriately to minimise behaviour and not behind driver when possible • Lock all PPE, hazardous substances, sharps, documentation in a safe area of the vehicle out of reach from client. • Ensure remote locking mechanism in place • Park in well-lit area with surface which will minimise risk of slip/trip/fall • Be aware of emergency procedures when in community buildings
