  2. Learning Objectives • To understand the concept of ‘sustainability’. • To know the advantages and disadvantages of the Three Gorge Dam project. • To be able to form a balanced opinion about an issue.

  3. Task • Look at the different definitions of sustainability. In groups discuss them for two minutes. • Each group has to create its own definition of ‘sustainability’.

  4. The Three Gorges DamWatch the following film and look at the photographs – make a list of questions to find out more about the project.

  5. Using the information sheets you have been given underline all the advantages of the project greenand all the disadvantages to the project red. Produce a table of advantages and disadvantages of the project in your book. How SUSTAINABLE is the project?
