Our Mission Statement Computer use at Allegheny College is an important aspect of campus life. However, its environmental impacts are often not realized or considered. & Goals: Spread Awareness to Campus Community Compare our policies to other institutions Provide solutions for a more environmentally friendly campus Make an impact on others across campus OUR MISSION & CONCERNS ~ Why? ~ Global Warming Production and use of various forms of energy is a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Climate Change Global warming and greenhouse gas emissions have a large impact on climate change. Other Institutions Institutions and organizations worldwide have begun to take measures to reduce energy consumption and increase energy efficiency. We Have The Capabilities We need to make others aware and implement changes! Most students never turn off his or her own personal computer. The University of Pittsburgh limits students to 600 pages per semester and uses software to track each student’s amount of printing. Steps for Improvement Practical Changes for Computing Services: • Improve monitoring program • Enforce printing regulations • Educate student body • Take steps from other institutions’ actions Simple changes, like printing on two sides of a piece of paper can make a large decrease in the amount of wasted paper.
