Gathering Software Use and Needs Data • Last year ARCC gathered data regarding what software departments were paying for, wish they had, and what software they can’t live out. • IT has mentioned this is helpful, but could really use information on HOW MANY people are using/wanting various software, and more specificity on the software that is needed/used (e.g., Adobe Photoshop compared to just Adobe). • Collection of this data has begun, but is still ongoing. We will continue our efforts in the Fall

Grants for Technological Training – Some Issues Looking Forward • Currently, people can apply for Dee grants to receive training in some area of technology • Previously, these grants were few and far between. However, the last two years these made up ~23% of the Dee grants received. • Issue: Dee grants have about 1/3 of the funds available compared to ARCC, AND Dee grants have become more “popular.” • Potential solution: Shift the “training” category of funding, at least for the purposes of course development, under the ARCC umbrella. • We have discussed this idea and will present a proposal to faculty senate to consider.
Comparing ARCC and Dee Criteria ARCC Dee “Faculty-led initiatives related to the innovative use of technology in educational settings.” 1. Projects specifically related to faculty research or scholarly activities. 2. Discipline-specific software to enable a faculty member to enhance an existing course, or to develop a new course. 3. Costs associated with one-time faculty training in an area of technology directly applicable to the academic mission of the institution.
