Presentation Objectives • To make you aware of different types of technology that can be incorporated into your classroom. • To show you how technology can create a positive classroom environment that fosters curiosity, excitement, and student learning.
Personal Information/Background • 15th year teaching • School Webmaster • Department Chair • HCPS & Region I TOY 2003-04 • National Board Certified 2004 • Adjunct Faculty at VCU • Staff Development Instructor
What is your experience with student responders? • I have my own set • I have used them • I have seen them • Never heard of them

Benefits of Student Responders • Engage all students – no fear of wrong answers, interactive game show, set up teams, fastest responder, high score, etc. • Assess – gives immediate data to analyze and direct my instruction • Achieve – students try harder, results can be saved and tracked

Benefits of Web Page • Acts as my lesson plan book • Can be modified easily • Dynamic • Central location for notes, assignments, policies, contact info, etc. • Prevents excuses from students who are absent

Conclusion • When used effectively, technology can help to create a positive classroom environment that is dynamic, exciting, and entertaining. • Technology does not replace effective teachers…teachers use technology to make instruction more effective and improve classroom management, student participation, and student achievement. • Ask yourself - Does the technology complement or hinder instruction?
