Banquets • Banquets were colourful and noisy in the kings hall . • Trumpets were used to announce the meal as the king and queen entered . • Water poured from an ornamental pitcher was used to wash the hands of guests. • Guests that were honored sat with the king and queen at the high table.
Food • A royal tester was used to test the kings food for poison and spoilage. • Each course had several dishes that the people would choose from. • A cupbearer would pour the king’s wine.
Types of Food • At the banquet there were several choices like: Soups, Cooked eels and fish, Roasted goose, Swans, Song birds and the meat of pig and sheep were common. • Some vegetables and sauce dishes were included.
Cooks • The king’s cooks tried to please him and his guests. • The cooks decorated dishes and made special surprises for the king. • One special dish is that they get live birds and put them in a pie crust. • When the pie crust was cut the bird flew out.
