  1. Drawing Conclusions In the Depths of Solitude By Tupac Shakur

  2. What does it mean to draw a conclusion? To arrive at an overall judgment or idea about a piece of writing

  3. Why would we draw conclusions in a poem? -To understand what a poem means -To understand what a poet is trying to say

  4. Today we are going to practice drawing conclusions about poetry. To come to a conclusion about what a poem means, we must ask ourselves questions about the poem.

  5. Tupac wrote poetry…not just raps. He actually had a book of poems published called The Rose that Grew from Concrete. This poem, “In the Depths of Solitude” is from that book. Tupac made some mistakes in his life and he was not always happy about the choices he made. This poem sheds light on how he felt about that. http://www.amazon.com/Rose-That-Grew-Concrete/dp/0671028448#reader

  6. “In the Depths of Solitude” I exist in the depths of solitudePonderin my true goalTryin to find piece of mindAnd still preserve my soulConstantly yearnin to be acceptedAnd from all receive respectNever compromising but sometimes riskyAnd that is my only regretHow can there be peace?A young heart with an old soulHow can I be in the depths of solitude? When there are two inside of me?This duo within me causes the perfect opportunityTo learn and live twice as fastAs those who accepts simplicity

  7. An analysis by Ludacris YesIf you read in between the lines you can understand exactly what my manTupac Shakur was talking about manYou see in or outside the music industryEveryone has heard the expression its lonely on topWell you knowPac was on topIt's only naturally that he existedIn the depths of solitudeOf course he was a young heart with an old soulAnd individual that was way ahead of his timeAnd sometimes when you're ahead of your timeYou do wonder what your true goal in life isWhen you get so highly criticized and put down for teachingWhat you've learned to othersAnd doing what you feel is the right thing to doSo with thatPac like all soldiers fought, to be acceptedSpecially by those who rejected him the mostAnd even if you didn’t like himYou had to respect himSee nobody’s perfectAnd off course everyone makes mistakesBut experience is the best teacher, if you ask meSo its important to learn from each mistakeAnd try hard, not to make the same one twiceHis only regret was making the mistake of being too over demanding at timesBut it was the wild outrageous PacMixed with the sensitive loving PacThat made him almost the perfect personAlso made him learn and live twice as fastAnd I'm sure, he would rather walk through lifeWith these multi dimensional personalitiesThan to accept being one side than simplisticAnyday..So being in the depths of solitude, if you ask meis were the true heroes of our times stay.Tupac Shakur, in our hearts and our minds foreverRest In Peace, live in harmony...This is Luda, signing outPeace

  8. Now, look on your worksheet and answer the questions. This will help you come to a conclusion about what Tupac is trying to say. Really think about it. This quote might help you:“Everyone’s at war with different things…I’m at war with my own heart sometimes.”-Tupac
