Key conclusions from Equality for Women… • Expanded set of indicators adds information (and value) • Rapid progress in expanding women’s capabilities, with some notable exceptions: • Enrolment rates, completion rates, literacy are success stories • Less progress on under five mortality, adolescent pregnancy and teenage births • Comparison of country performance to regional benchmarks is quite useful Conclusions of chapter 2—see p. 79
World Bank efforts to improve gender statistics and indicators • New/improved Bank publications and data • sets: • New GenderStats database and website • Little Data Book on Gender (forthcoming) • Update of gender indicators database associated with2007 Global Monitoring Report Improve the quality of gender-disaggregated indicators: • Develop modules for household surveys to better measure assets owned by women • Pilot-test different approaches to capture female labor force participation in labor force and household surveys
Increase national and international agency • capacity to collect, report, analyze and use • gender-disaggregated data: • Provide technical assistance to improve existing national surveys • Support data collection by national statistics offices on formal and informal employment in selected countries (joint with UNSD) • Support global gender statistics networks
Monitoring progress on the Bank’s Gender Action Plan • A results monitoring and evaluation framework has been prepared • A baseline portfolio review is being completed • A GAP mid-term evaluation will be completed in 2009 to review the overall direction, framework, strategies and processes used to implement the GAP • A final evaluation will be conducted after the GAP is completed (2011).
