WHAT IS AN ADJECTIVE? • AN ADJECTIVE IS USED TO DESCRIBE DETAILS IN YOUR WRITING. • AN ADJECTIVE TELLS WHAT KIND, WHICH ONE, HOW MANY, & WHOSE ABOUT WHAT IT DESCRIBES. • WHAT KIND? • WHICH ONE? • HOW MANY? • WHOSE?
WHAT KIND? • The caring vet doctor helps the girl take care of her pet. • Caring describes what kind of vet doctor she is.
WHICH ONE? • The brilliant young lady entered the golf competition. • Brilliant describes which one.
WHOSE? • Our thoughtful principal is hurrying to the game. • Our and thoughtful describes whose.
The articles a, an, and the are articles. A is used before consonants. Anis used before vowels. Ancan also be used when a word has a silent vowel sound, but begins with a consonant. The is used when a specific item is being used. Abriefcase An hour An elephant The computer THE ARTICLES
