  2. ROTARY’S MISSION • "Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that: • provides humanitarian service, • encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and • helps build goodwill and peace in the world." • Ref: www.rotary.org/aboutrotary/index.html

  3. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? • The most important life skills are not being taught in schools or by parents (eg. Social intelligence, conflict transformation, relationship building, communications, peacebuilding, etc.) • After working in peace education for over a decade, it is clear that, in the next twenty years, we’re going to get the society we’re creating now. But, we have it in our power to build a better world … a world with peace. • As Rotarians and Leaders in our Communities and Families with a Peace Mission, if we want to increase our success, • Take the time to look at what we are doing now, and • What will we do in the near future, to make it a saner and more socially intelligent place to live for all of us? • What we must do is bring our leadership & management acumen to bear on Peace.

  4. My Story: • Peace passion ignited by Rotary: • What peace meant to me and why • 15 Years of Research/Work • Web site and conferencing and networks • RI’s Seven Paths to Peace dissemination • Rotary Peace Parks • Peace Rotarians Action Group • Rotary University Chairs in Peace Studies • Rotary Peace Plus Program • District Peace Initiative • www.peace.ca/rotary.htm

  8. DISTRICT PEACE INITIATIVE • Primary Vehicle: Peace Education (i.e. learning the attitudes, skills and behaviours to live together more successfully). At its heart is raising Social Intelligence and Self Actualization. • Committee and Resources: to provide leadership, direction, support and challenge for Rotarians, Clubs and District. • What you share you strengthen We need your help: • I want you to look at what you and your Rotary Club is doing to help advance peace. I want you to help RI to achieve its potential to bring peace to the world. In the process, you will become a better person, and your Club will become a better Club … that I guarantee.

  9. Quick list of easy things we Rotarians can start with: • Peace libraries (books and videos) • Rotary peace resource people to help Clubs • Contests • Concerts • Conversation cafés • Speaker series • Peace schools, universities, etc. • Junior Peace Achievement Program • Peace Education Conferencing • Awards • Peace parks with content • Marketing campaign • Mentoring • Fill gaps
