  2. History Started by Dr. Garry McKenzie and a teacher from Beery Middle School in 1998! Growing each year – first expanding to all of Columbus Public middle schools, then Central Ohio – now the entire state

First VisitsNovember 4 or February 17 Teachers register to bring 8-12 middle school students to visit one of a number of science sites where students participate in hands-on science events and learn about the work of scientists. They also collect information for Media Manager presentations: pictures, notes.

  4. Sharing Visits • After visiting campus, students and their teachers prepare an electronic presentation (essay, poem, song, movie, PPT, drawing, etc. about their Breakfast of Science Champions visit. • They share these presentations with students at other schools through the Breakfast of Science Champions Media Manager site.

  6. Impact Students participate in hands-on science. They meet scientists and can see scientists doing their work. They learn about careers in science. Through Ohio State’s Economic Access Initiative, they receive age-appropriate information about planning for college. By producing an electronic presentation of their work, they reflect on what they learned and share it with others.

  7. Africentric Early College Greenhouse Visit • We really enjoyed the trip, because we learned interesting facts about plants. • We didn’t know many fragrances in perfumes are composed from plants. • We LOVE chocolate. Did you know chocolate is made out of plant?

  8. Breakfast of Science Champion Site Responsibilities Depending on the size of your site, you will Host 20 or more middle school students, accompanied by their teachers and other chaperones. Provide hands-on science activities for students. Involve faculty and /or graduate students in your site visit. Provide a “breakfast” for students and guests (doughnuts to granola bars, fresh squeezed juice to juice boxes). Pay for parking passes for drivers to your site.
