OOH model in Angus and Perthshire • Angus – PCEC at Arbroath and MIIUs in Montrose, Forfar and Brechin • Perthshire – PCEC at Perth and MIIUs in Blairgowrie, Crieff and Pitlochry • GPs doing home visits see patients in MIIUs when required
Issues: • Cover four days on consecutive weeks • Home visiting in a rural community is resource heavy. • Requirement to also see patients in MIIUs results in additional strain on resources. • Patients can’t see a GP locally over festive periods.
Solution: GP shifts based in MIIUs between 11am and 3pm on 26th, 27th and 28th December and 2nd, 3rd and 4th January.
MIIU based GP duties: Patients referred from NHS 24 Walk in patients In-patients in attached community hospital
Informing the public: • Adverts were placed in all Tayside local papers during the weeks prior to Christmas and New Year • Leaflets distributed at PPG road shows throughout Tayside in December.
Information contained in ads: • GP present at MIIUs • Which days – 26th, 27th and 28th Dec and 2nd, 3rd and 4th Jan. • Hours of opening – 11.00 – 15.00 • Access without contacting NHS 24

Benefits: • Provided an improved service for patients in rural Angus and Perthshire • Reduced strain on home visiting in these localities. • Pharmacies aligned their opening hours to the MIIU clinic times • Eliminated some phone calls to NHS 24
