1st Essential to living in Christ? Continue in Prayer Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. [3] At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— [4] that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. (Colossians 4:2-4 ESV)

Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, [2] when they see your respectful and pure conduct. (1 Peter 3:1-2 ESV) Good conduct obviously CAN work…or not
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35 ESV) Good conduct can show us as disciples… or not “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, [21] that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:20-21 ESV) Good conduct can show attractive unity… or not
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, [16] making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. [17] Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV) We need to walk wisely for TIME’s sake
3rd Essential to living in Christ? Continue in Prayer Walk in Wisdom Speak with Grace The power of the tongue is awesome, but not always good. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. (Colossians 4:6 ESV)
For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. Easy to err… [5] So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! Able to do great things… [6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell Can change the course of life… [8] but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. Untamable… [10] From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.Able to both bless and curse… (James 3:2-10 ESV)
Clear direction/goals to careful speech are seen here Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. [6] Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. (Colossians 4:5-6 ESV) Directed to have a good flavor to our speech Wisdom is seen in our speech especially toward outsiders Are we making the most of our opportunities?
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29 ESV) The importance of graceful speech is seen in repeated warnings.
With Just Three Essentials that Paul and the Holy Spirit Thought Important… • Our prayer life can be rich, different • Our “walk” can be noted for wisdom • Our speech can be known for it’s encouragement
