Seek the Things That Are Above Colossians 3:1-4
What Are You Aiming For? • “Seek ye first his kingdom” (Mt. 6:33) • “Looking unto the promise of God” (Rom. 4:20) • “We make it our aim” (2 Cor. 5:9) • “I press on toward the goal” (Phil. 3:14) • “Looking unto Jesus” (Heb. 12:1-2) • “We seek after the city which is to come” (Heb. 13:14)
Seek the Things That Are AboveColossians 3:1-4 1 If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth. 3 For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory.
What Are the Things Above? • We seek our father’s will in heaven (Mt. 6:10; Eph. 6:9; Heb. 12:25; Jas. 3:17) • We seek our spiritual blessings from heaven (Eph. 1:3; Heb. 6:4; Jas. 1:17) • We seek our Lord’s return from heaven (1 Thess. 4:16) • We seek our spiritual body in heaven (1 Cor. 15:48-49; 2 Cor. 5:1-4)
What Are the Things Above? • We seek our eternal home in heaven (Phil. 3:20; Heb. 11:16; 1 Pet. 1:4) • We seek our glorious praise of God in heaven (Rev. 19:1; Rev. 22:5) • We seek our new heaven and earth (2 Pet. 3:13; Rev. 21:1)
Why Seek the Things Above? • Earthly things are not consistent with our new life in Christ (Col. 3:1-4) • Earthly things bring no real satisfaction (Eccl. 5:10; Jn. 4:13-14; 6:48-58) • Earthly things are uncertain (Jas. 4:13-16; 1 Tim. 6:17-19) • Earthly things are destined to pass away (2 Cor. 4:16-18; 1 Jn. 2:15-17)
