Engineering Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Engineering (level 2) - Equivalent to 5 GCSE’s - Full time course filling all options. Engineering Level 3 OVERVIEW The Level 2 Diploma in Engineering provides students with an essential ‘tool kit’ that will help them to embark on a career in engineering. The skills and knowledge that are gained will be put to good use in their everyday working life. The course will help the student to build and apply knowledge in a wide variety of engineering contexts. This is a one year course. COURSE CONTENT The course consists of four core units: Unit 1 Working Practices in Engineering Unit 2 Using and Interpreting Engineering Information Unit 3 Applied Electrical and Mechanical Science for Technicians Unit 4 Mathematics for Engineering Technicians and five specialist units: Unit 7 Electronic Devices and Communication Applications Unit 8 Selecting Engineering Materials Unit 16 Application of Welding Processes Unit 18 Engineering Marking Out Unit 19 Electronic Circuit Construction and Testing ASSESSMENT Assessment is through a portfolio of coursework graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. Final certification rewards the student with a BTEC First Diploma equivalent to five GCSEs grade C and above. All assignments and a course booklet are available from the DT section of the school website. PROGRESSION On successful completion of the course the student may progress into employment or continue to study in their chosen vocational area. Progression onto the BTEC National Diploma in Engineering is possible for those who gain a Merit or higher. BTEC National Diploma in Engineering (level 3) - Equivalent to 3 A levels - Full time course filling all 6th form options. Engineering Level 2 OVERVIEW The Level 3 Diploma in Engineering provides students with an essential set of skills and knowledge to be able to access most disciplines of engineering. This is a two year course. COURSE CONTENT The course consists of two years of study and contains 17 units of study. Engineering Level 2 BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality • Equivalent to One A Level • Only requires one option block during 6th form • Two year course OVERVIEW • The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality is designed to fit in alongside conventional A Levels where a student wishes to continue to develop their skills within the Hospitality and Catering industry cultivated at GCSE. • COURSE CONTENT: • Unit 1: The Hospitality Industry • Unit 2: Principles of Supervising Customer Service Performance in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism • Unit 3: Providing Customer Service in Hospitality • Unit 6: Food and Drinks Service • Unit 10: European Food • Unit 11: Asian Food • Unit 12: Contemporary World Food • ASSESSMENT • Assessment is through a portfolio of coursework graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Product Design – A Level Engineering Level 2 OVERVIEW The Product Design (3D Design) course is a modern look at the design of products we utilise on a daily basis. This course is suitable for candidates from GCSE Resistant Materials, Graphics or Electronics with a passion for design and innovation. This course is designed to encourage candidates to: Develop a broad view of design and technology - Develop their capacity to design and make products - Appreciate the complex relationsbetween design, materials, manufacture and marketing AS COURSE CONTENT/ASSESSMENT At AS level candidates develop an understanding of a broad range of materials, with emphasis on the life cycle of products, manufacture and final disposal. This specification also considers the broader issues for the designer including the environmental sustainability of products and consumer safety: Unit 1: (PROD1) Materials, Components and Application AS 50% - 2 hour written paper - Based primarily on Materials and Components and consisting of three sections Unit 2: (PROD2) Learning Through Designing and Making AS 50% - Coursework – approx 50 hours A2 COURSE CONTENT/ASSESSMENT At A2 the specification offers candidates the opportunity to further develop the knowledge and practical skills from AS Level. BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Children's Play, Learning and Development - Equivalent to 2 A levels - Full time course filling all 6th form options. Engineering Level 2 Engineering Level 3 OVERVIEW The BTEC National Certificate in Children’s Play, Learning and Development is a two year course. Students are introduced to a range of early year settings and primary schools. Work experience is an essential part of this course and all placements take place in local nurseries, infant or primary schools with children up to the age of eight. Placements are supported by a range of coursework units which also help to prepare students for a successful career in childcare.
