  2. November5thBallot Proposal • Bond proposal for facility & site improvements to address student learning, technology, health, enrollment growth, safety and security at our schools • Proposal will not increase the current millage rate • Total program is $76 million

  3. A Look Back • Last Bond Approved By Voters - 2002 • Needs Addressed- • Overcrowding & Technology • $150 Million • Four New Schools • Additions At Three High Schools • Technology/Electrical Infrastructure Promises Made, Promises Kept!

  4. District Finances • Over the last five years - 8.1% reduction in state funding • 2008-09 $9,082/pupil • 2012-13 $8,332/pupil • $4.9 million reduction in funding for our most at-risk students The State of Michigan is not investing in our schools!

  5. Why a Bond Now? • Need to enhance school security • Recent tragic events have heightened the need for security at all schools across the country • Technology currently available in the marketplace can enhance security • Accommodate EnrollmentGrowth • 25 consecutive years • Gained more than 6,000 students • 2,060 student increase since 2000 • 8.1% reduction in state funding

  6. Why a Bond Now? • Need for updated Technology and to meet State requirements for on-line testing of all students • Aging Bus Inventory • No bus purchases in 4 years • Average age of bus 9 years • Useful life of a bus is 10 years • High cost to maintain aging fleet

  7. Why a Bond Now? • Up-keep of Aging Buildings • Past practice - annual commitment of $4-5 million in buildings & buses • Today- spend reactively on emergencies only

  10. M = Modifications • All schools will benefit • Projects such as: • Roofs • Site work (playgrounds, parking lots) • Windows • Lockers • Carpet • Furniture & Equipment • Will ensure safety, health, accessibility and suitability of learning environments for all students!

R = Renovations • Snow Elementary • Existing locker rooms to science labs and exterior corridor enclosure • Maple Elementary • Pool remodel, new flooring in several rooms including multi-purpose room, replace and add lockers • Henry Ford Elementary • Existing locker rooms to science labs, exterior corridor enclosure, major restoration of classrooms and ancillary areas in original building • Whitmore-Bolles Elementary • Relocation/remodeling of main office for security

R = Renovations • Bryant Middle • Auditorium ceiling remodeling • Smith Middle • Auditorium remodeling • Dearborn HS • New air conditioning in auditorium, vocal and instrumental rooms, auditorium sound system, door replacement • Edsel Ford HS • Selective A/C replacement, athletic field team room • Fordson HS • Selective A/C and lighting replacement, athletic field team room

  14. T = Technology • 7,000 computers (3,500 every 5 years) • Upgrades to equipment & licenses • District–wide wireless • Prepare district for State required on-line testing

  15. T = Transportation • 30 new buses to replace aging fleet • No increase to student bussing
