Afterschool Snack/Supper Program in At-Risk Areas • Child Nutrition Program funded by USDA • Nutritious snacks and/or suppers for children at the end of their school day • Quality care and a nutritious meal • Children 18 years or younger at the start of the school year • Automatically Category A

  3. Who Can Participate? • Site must be area eligible • Offer educational or enrichment activities after school, on weekends, holidays or school vacations during the regular school year • Meet licensing, health or safety codes required by state or local law

  4. Who Can Participate? (continued) • Serve meals meeting CACFP meal pattern requirements • Provide non-residential child care • Public, non-profit, and for-profit institutions

  5. Area Eligible • Sites where at least half of the children in the school attendance area are eligible for free and reduced price school meals

  6. For-Profit Organization • 25% of enrolled children’s care is paid through Title XX funds (25% of enrolled children or licensed capacity, whichever is less) or • At least 25% of licensed capacity or enrolled children, whichever is less, are eligible for free or reduced price meals during the most recent calendar month.

  7. Educational or Enrichment Activity • Arts and crafts • Homework assistance • Life skills • Computer • Remedial education

  8. Snack Requirements • Snack: • At least two different food groups from the following four: • fluid milk • meat or meat alternate • vegetable, fruit, or full-strength juice • whole-grain or enriched bread or bread alternate

  9. Supper Requirements • Supper: • fluid milk • two servings of a vegetable and/or fruit (two or more kinds) • whole-grain or enriched bread or bread alternate • meat or meat alternate

  10. Reimbursement July 1, 2008 thru June 30, 2009 Meal Reimbursement Rates • $0.71 per snack • $2.57 per supper plus $.2075 cash-in-lieu of commodities • claim up to one supper and one snack per child per day

  11. Record Keeping Requirements • Menus • Meal Attendance by head count or by name • Dual programs • Center attendance • Number of snacks/suppers prepared or delivered
