Can you use Amazon Alexa, Google home, or Siri to dial 911? Yes you can! You just need an Echo Connect and some patience. Recently, our mom asked Brian and I if we could set up an Amazon Alexa speaker in our Grandma’s house. She wanted to set this up just in case Grandma needed to dial an emergency number to get help right away. Instantly, my mind went to those Life Alert commercials we watched while growing up. How to Use Amazon Alexa to Call 911
Step 01 Get the Alexa app
You need the app and a smart phone available to enable Alexa to call 911
Step 02 Get an Echo Connect
Step 03 Get an Echo speaker
Get an Echo speaker that is compatible with Echo Connect. (Note: all Echo Speakers since 2016 are compatible with Echo Connect.)
Step 04 Set Up Echo Connect
Plug in Echo Connect to your home phone line and Internet. (Note: to be able to call 911 from Alexa, you MUST also have a phone line – either Land Line or VOIP).
Step 05 Connect Echo Devices
Connect any Amazon Speaker Device (Echo, Plus, Spot, Show, or Look) to your Internet (wifi or wired).
Step 6 Run A Test
Test the system (by calling a friend or family member). Say “Hey, Alexa! Call [and say the name of the person you are calling.]
