  2. Feasting in Esther There are ten banquets in the Book of Esther The three pairs of banquets that mark the beginning, middle, and end of the story are particularly prominent: the two banquets given by Xerxes, the two prepared by Esther, the double celebration of Purim.

  3. “To Contend” means “to struggle”, “to resist” or “to oppose”.

  4. He (Jesus) is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. Colossians 1.28-29

  5. Contending for God’s priorities vv.1-4 “ . . . contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” Jude 1.3

  6. Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 1 Corinthians 16.13

  7. God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. Hebrews 6.10

  8. What will you be remembered for?

  9. Contending against evil vv.5-10 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. Ephesians 5.11

  10. Identity the enemy “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”. Ephesians 6:11-12

  11. Turn your enemy over to the king It was the Lord your God who fought for you. Joshua 23.3

  12. Whom you are contending against does not define you, but whom you are contending for. Contending is meant to reinforce our identity in Christ.

  13. Active resistance strengthens our resolve and forms our character in the mold of Him whose ways we are embracing. When we resist evil we have greater potential to affirm our identity in Christ.

  14. Give us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for, because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything. - Peter Marshall

  15. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1.7

  16. Three movements vv.7-10 • The King removes himself from the situation to consider. • Haman moves himself to plead with Esther. • Harbona is moved to remind the king about the gallows.

  17. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Psalm 23.5

  18. “I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.” Colossians 1.29

  19. When and where do you need to contend? • Identify the area of challenge. • Begin with prayer If needed, ask God to forgive you for your part. Ask for the Gifts and Fruit of the Spirit to be exercised in the whole process. Ask God to expose and dismantle the evil Ask the Holy Spirit to invade the situation
