ARM Data Overview Chuck Long Jim Mather Tom Ackerman
ARM Instrumentation Strategy • Measure all the radiatively important properties of the atmospheric column and the surface radiation budget • State parameters (temp, humidity) • Cloud occurrence and properties • Aerosol optical depth 2
Instrumentation at Darwin ARM site • 35 GHz Radar (cloud properties) • Lidar (pulsed laser; particle and thin cloud properties ) • Sky imagers (cloud cover) • Broad-band and narrow-band radiometers (solar and infrared radiation) • Microwave radiometer (water vapor and liquid water) • Meteorology sensors (temp, humidity, winds) 3
Other instruments • AERI – Thermal infrared interferometer – provides high resolution spectra in two bands (3-5 m and 8-20 m) • Multi-filter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) – measures narrow band irradiance – retrieve aerosol optical depth and Angstrom coefficient 14
Data availability • All systems collecting data continuously since beginning of the experiment • All data available essentially on next day basis from ARM archive • Start at www.arm.gov, go to Data and then Data Archive tabs • Quicklook plots (NOTE: Darwin is “C3”) • University of Utah – link on TWP ICE page • ARM browser – start at www.arm.gov, go to Data tab; then “Data plots” tap on right and then “Plot Browser” under Data Quality heading: http://dq.arm.gov/plotbrowser/ 15
