FITNESSTESTING Each fall, we as a P.E. staff conduct a series of physical fitness tests to all students at Clark Lane Middle School in the areas of Muscular Strength (Push-ups), Muscular Endurance (Curl-ups), Cardiorespiratory Endurance (Mile Run/PACER) and Flexibility (Sit and Reach). Student results are then compared to state goals based on age and gender, and then compiled results are submitted to the state. Below are the four assessments and goals students will try to meet. These results identify areas of strengths and weaknesses that drive the design of our monthly warm-ups and progress and improvement is monitored throughout the school year. MOVE 60 MINUTES A DAY! In today’s technological world, students are moving less…so we encourage your child to “move 60 a day”…60 minutes of physical activity on a daily basis. With your support and continued encouragement to fulfill this goal for your child, the health benefits are not only physical, but mentally and emotionally as well. We are doing our best to create “life-long movers” that understand the value of exercise in their lives! Forming “Healthy Habits” Worksheets for Students and Parents Students in 7th and 8th grade are given a “Healthy Habits” worksheet in the spring to complete over a two week period that charts daily activities and food consumption so that students get a snapshot of the foods they are eating and how much exercise they are getting. This information helps students gain a real understanding of the impacts both nutrition and exercise have on the human body, so that it heightens awareness of how to live a healthy life.
