The Background • HCSC invited to submit an application to participate in the 2012 OLE by the Western Metro Region. • 2 schools selected per region • International branch of DEECD have selected Hoppers Crossing SC and Victoria University SC to represent the WMR. • Meeting with WMR personnel regarding proposed destination, research project and development of the itinerary. • HCSC and Victoria University selected China – specifically, Shanghai, Beijing and Guanggzhou.

  4. Location of OLE - China

Details of the Exchange • Visit China for approx 3 weeks in Sept-Oct 2012. • Leave Wed 19th Sept (last week of Term 3) • Return Friday 12th October (Week 1 of Term 4) • Hotel accommodation (approx 3.5 to 4 star) will be included in the program • Airfare (international and domestic), Travel Insurance, Visas and food is included • Admission prices to events are included • Students will need approximately $500 -$1000 AU to cover spending money.

Research Project (see handout) • How do schools in China and Australia prepare students to be global citizens? • Students will be expected to work collaboratively and conduct an inquiry based research project into the educational experiences of students in China and Australia. • The research project fits with the Australian Curriculum perspective, “Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia”

  15. Application Process • Students wishing to take part in the Overseas Learning Experience to China must complete a written application. You will be given a pro-forma to base your application on e.g. why you should be selected, what involvement have you had with the school, your knowledge of HCSC etc. • Located on the School website under international connections. www.hopcross.vic.edu.au • Shortlisted applicants will be notified of an interview time where they will sit a formal interview in front of a panel

For the Successful Applicant • Become one of the Student Leaders of HCSC • Agree to deliver presentations to a diverse range of groups upon your return to Hoppers Crossing Secondary College • Work collaboratively with other selected students and staff in order to represent our college (WMR/Australia) appropriately

Development of a Sister School • Many of the schools being visited are interested in developing long term relationships. • Help students gain a greater cultural awareness of their place as global citizens • Utahloy International School, Qinghua University High School, Tsingua High School. • Already have cultural exchange programs in America and Italy.
