Bellwork • Today we will be reading an article titled “Beetle Turns Itself into a Wheel (That’s How it Rolls)”. Write 2-3 sentences predicting what the article is about and what you will learn. • What do you already know about animals/bugs that “roll”? Give examples of things you have seen in real life, heard about, or watched on TV • Write 1 question you have about today’s article, based on the title.
Introduction • The southern beaches of Cumberland Island, off the coast of Georgia, USA, are part of a national park. To protect the area, only residents and staff are allowed to drive their vehicles on the sands. But there are plenty of wheels nonetheless – small, living ones.
Strategy: Two Words-Two Sentences • For each “chunk” of the article we read, we will write a two word title & two sentences summarizing what we learned. Example: TWO WORD (title) • National Park • There is a national park in Georgia where most people are not allowed to drive. However, there is some other kind of “wheel” you can find on the island. TWO SENTENCE (Summary)
