  3. Let’s Get Down to Family Business…. • 1947: men = 23.7 women = 20.5 (average age) • 1952: men = 23.0 women = 20.2 • By 1959, the average bride was under 19! • After the Korean war, 17,000 Koreans immigrated to the US—usually as brides and children of soldiers

  4. Women… • Often married right out of high school • Went to college to find a husband often didn’t graduate college • Stay-at-home moms (is really a full time job)

  5. Question • Can you imagine getting married at 19 or 22? Do you think your parents would approve?

  6. Kids… • The 34 million married couples had 2.3 children during the 50’s

  7. By 1958, 1/3 of US population was less than 15 yrs/old
