BC Art Teachers’ Association New Idea • This year, our conference is moving away from the school and into the community. We are working with the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Granville Island arts community to provide teachers with a new experience. We are going to the community and finding out what they do and where they do it. It is an opportunity for artists, galleries and vendors to connect to us in their own space. Pacific Region Meeting
BC Art Teachers’ Association Current Issues • Our association has found that enrolling new members is an ongoing issue. We retain members well but continue to search for ways to meet the needs of new teachers. • The loss of art specialists at the elementary level and the concept that junior grades (8 & 9) are able to be taught by teachers with no visual art training or experience. BC Art Teachers’ Association Areas Where NAEA Could Help • Our association would like to expand our member base to include museum and gallery educators. • Help with locating NAEA members in our province for awards. Pacific Region Meeting
