1/23/2021 St. Paul the Apostle - BibleInteract 03:07 In Depth Study of St. Paul the Apostle The study is entitled “Walking the Land with the Apostle Paul,” which does not tell you “what to believe” but focuses instead on ancient Israel and the training that Paul received in Jerusalem as a student of the great sage, Gamaliel. This program relies on Paul’s Letter to the Romans to demonstrate his use of ancient methods of discovering and conveying depth of meaning. One of these methods is the use of artistic language devices that are prevalent in the Hebrew Scriptures and Paul uses them in his New Testament letters. Unfortunately, many people have interpreted these creative words literally, which is not what Paul intended. The disciple Peter declared in his second epistle that Paul wrote “some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort.” [2 Peter 3:16] Unfortunately, the distortion of Paul’s writings, especially those portions directed to the many Jews who believed in Christ before Paul’s missionary travels to the Gentiles, has continued even in publications and teachings today.
