  2. Who am I? • Uncertain about service prior to joining -- Enlisted in 1996 (almost 15 years of active duty) • Assigned to Ft. Bliss, TX • Deployed to Saudi Arabia with Patriot Missile Unit 1997 • Assigned to Korea (5 years by choice) 1998-2003 • Operated command and control airborne radios for Commander • Assigned to Ft. Drum, NY • Deployed to Afghanistan with Long Range Surveillance Detachment 2003-2004 • Instructed at Noncommissioned Officers Academy • Commissioned through Officers Candidate School 2007 • Deployed to Afghanistan with Infantry unit 2009 • Patient Administration Officer for on post health clinic

Army Medical Department Mission • Conserve the fighting strength • Reassure Soldiers and their Families that if they get hurt or sick they will receive the best possible care and will have the best possible chances of recovering full health. • Solve health problems abroad as conditions warrant.

  7. Carilion School of Medicine • Tuition $40,000/yr = $160,000 (4 years) • Books $1,000/yr = $4,000 (4 years) • Fees $0= waved by VTC(4 years) • Stipend $2,088/mo = $87,696 (4 years) • ADT $5,500/yr = $22,000 (4 years) • Bonus $20,000 Total = $293,696

  8. Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine • Tuition $36,105/yr = $144,420 (4 years) • Books $1,000/yr = $4,000 (4 years) • Fees $750/yr = $3,000 (4 years) • Stipend $2,088/mo = $87,696 (4 years) • ADT $5,500/yr = $22,000 (4 years) • Bonus $20,000 Total = $281,116

  9. Health Professions Scholarship • Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant while participating in HPSP • 45 days of training at Military Medical Facilities across the country per school year • Commissioned as a Captain in the Medical Corps upon graduation from Medical School

Eligibility • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen • Be enrolled in or have a letter of acceptance from an accredited medical school • Maintain full-time student status • Qualify as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserve • Minimum of 24 MCAT (8 in each category) • Minimum of 3.2 GPA (undergraduate)

  18. Obligation • Active Duty obligation is one year for each year you receive the scholarship • Payback begins after you complete residency
