  1. May 19th 1941 The Viet Minh -Ho Chi Minh made the Viet Minh. -It was because he wanted Vietnam to be an independent and communist country.

  2. September 2nd 1945 The Uprising -Ho Chi Minh and his group declared that Vietnam was an independent country, so France battled Vietnam. -China helped The Viet Minh and the U.S. helped the French since the Viet Minh was run by communism.

  3. May 7th 1954 The Defeat -The French got defeated at the battle of Dien Bien Phu. -Dien Bien Phu was at the north of Vietnam.

  4. July 21st 1954 Separated -Vietnam got separated into North Vietnam and South Vietnam. -The North’s government is communist, and the South’s government is democratic.

  5. December 20th 1960 The Viet Cong -The Viet Cong was formed. -It was a group of people like an army in South Vietnam who like communism more than democracy.

  6. August 2nd 1965 Gulf of Tonkin Incident -The North Vietnamese attacked two U.S. ships in the Gulf of Tonkin. -The Gulf of Tonkin was international water.

  7. March 2nd 1965 America Joins -The U.S. started bombing North Vietnam, and later on sent 540,000 soldiers into North Vietnam. -Children got hurt and burnt by the poisonous gases and bombs.

  8. January 30th 1968 Attacking the South -The North Vietnamese army joins the Viet Cong to attack lots of South Vietnam’s cities and towns. -Lots of children were child soldiers.

  9. April 30th 1975 Nixon’s Decision -Lots of Americans were protesting. -So President Nixon slowly got all the U.S. troops to go away from Vietnam.

  10. March 10th 1975 Surrendering to the North -North Vietnam attacked South Vietnam. -After that South Vietnam surrendered to North Vietnam. -Soon, Vietnam became a communist country.
