Matthew Bellamy • Born June 9, 1978 • Son of ‘The Tornados’ guitarist George Bellamy • Moved in with grandmother after parents divorced • Ranked #19 on Gigwise’s50 Greatest Guitarists Ever • Engaged to pregnant actress Kate Hudson • Influences include Jeff Buckley, Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, andTomMorello

Chris Wolstenholme • Born on December 2, 1978 in Rotherham • Moved to Teignmouth at age 11 • Learned bass guitar for the band • Married to wife Kelly with 3 children • Biggest influence on Muse is his love for heavy rock. • Has been described as “quite a headbanger” • In his eyes “Life is Rock”

Dominic Howard • Born December 7th, 1977 in Stockport • “Dom” moved to Teignmouth at the age of 8 • Sister helped expose him to music, and he experimented with the electrical keyboard at age 5 • Inspired by Stewart Copeland, Dave Grohl, and Buddy Rich • Described as “the trio’s boss” and known for sense of humor • Loves being on the road

  7. Background Info • Formed while attending Teignmouth Community College • Previously named Gothic Plague, Fixed Penalty and Rocket Baby Dolls • Won Battle of the Bands • After winning the band changed their name to Muse.

Background and Discography • In1995 Muse was spotted by Dennis Smith • In 1997 Smith offered Muse free studio time • Self-titled EP was released with the 'Dangerous' label one year later. • Signed to Maverick in 1998. They released their first single 'Uno followed by 'Cave' • ‘Showbiz’ released in 1999 • Produced by John Leckie • 'Origin of Symmetry’ followed in 2001 • Single ‘Plug in Baby’ reached number 11 • 'New Born' hit top 20 • Hullabaloo DVD released in 2002 • only Muse album to release on SACD

The Future of Muse • Over time, song concepts have transformed to more ambitious, addressing issues • Ex: fear of the evolution of technology, the apocalypse, etc.. • Increasing in Popularity/receiving more awards “We want to have a new approach and a new atmosphere…., Muse is about getting the hopes, dreams, desires, frustrations out of your system that you wouldn't normally be able to do…it's about showing people that there are things inside buried that should be exposed, and having no shame about them…” - Matthew Bellamy

Composition History • Album is influenced by Rachmaninov, Richard Strauss, Chopin, and Pink Floyd • Looks at the concept of panspermia • A story of humanity coming to an end and everyone pinning their hopes on astronauts • Part 1 - jaded acceptance that civilization will end. • Part 2 - desperate hope that sending astronauts to find and populate other planets will be a success • Part 3 - astronauts realize that it is just one big cycle • unless humanity can change it will happen all over again

Quick tempo, triplet notes, arpeggio. • 1:36 Drums crescendo into vocals. • 1:42 Vocals in high falsetto with the orchestra following.
