Classroom Jobs Classroom jobs are enjoyable and my classmates love it. Every week we pick a different job on Mondays. Super Kid gets to pick their job first, then the rest of the class pick jobs. “Classroom jobs” help us become responsible and helpful to other classmates. One classroom job is the Homework Helpers. Some other jobs are Mail boxer, sink, Paper Passer, Floors and Computer Care taker. Classroom jobs are exciting and part of our routine. Veronica Bock
Graphs In September we learned about graphs. There are line graphs, pictographs and bar graphs. When we learned about graphs Ms. Engasser, our teacher, put us in groups. As a group we came up with a question to survey the class. For example my group’s question was, “What’s your favorite cake?”. Then the students would raise their hand to vote on their favorite cake. Then the groups had a choice to make either a bar graph or pictograph. Then we made a large graph to show the data we collected. We also had to come up with questions to ask students to analyze our graph. It was exciting to get into groups and create a graph! Cara King
Hand Poster At the beginning of the year my class created a beautiful poster with water colored hands for Open House. Our teacher read a phrase to the class: “With a heart and a helping hand a child can accomplish ANYTHING.” We made this poster, so we have something that is unique from each of us. Everyone traced their hand and painted with different water colors. Ms. Engasserput them on a long sheet of paper, and put the poster on the chalk board for display. This reminds our class that each of us are different, but put all together we make a fantastic class. Our class had fun making the poster, and we displayed it for that special night and still have it up! Samantha Marshalsea
Class Dojo In class we have a behavior management website that is called Class Dojo. Class Dojo gives points to kids who are on task, show teamwork, help others and more. It can also take points away from kids that are disrespectful, do not turn in homework, off task, unprepared or maybe calling out. At the end of the week, Ms. Engasser will see which top 5 students have the most points then they will choose a prize. The prizes are like: squishy toys and aspecial seat. It encourages the class to be kind and show respect to others, keeps the class accountable and focused. Class Dojo is fun and cool. By Lia Totten
Super Kid We have a weekly Super Kid. Some privileges the Super Kid gets are usually exciting. On Friday Ms. Engasser chooses a student she thinks has been super all week. The super kid gets a lot of prizes; a pencil, an “all about me” poster they can fill out and a special seat!! They also get the “bag-o-goodies” which is a bag that has highlights magazines, erasers, pencil sharpeners, markers ,crayons and a lot of other cool things to use all week long. I think Super Kid is a great incentive for our class! Julie Blake
Spelling City Spelling city is a computer program that help’s kids with spelling words. The program helps you with spelling patterns and rules. We use it every Monday to take a pretest for our spelling list. It’s extremely helpful so you can improve as a speller. There are fun games like Missing Letter and Match It. These games are options for our H.W. and can take place of a worksheet. Spelling city is a great website to practice spelling! By Ronan Fahey
Spelling Ball In our class we play a game called spelling ball first each student gets to sit on there desk next you have to pass the ball but you have to spell if you drop the ball or say the incorrect your out and if you drop the ball your also out if you talk and throw the ball wildly your out the last one sitting on there desk wins the game we play this game to improve at spelling and the game uses our weekly list words the class loves this game because were getting better at spelling Britney Tsougas
+ Xtramath In our class Xtramath is a decent program to use on the computer to practice math facts. Xtramath helps the class get better and better at knowing their math facts fast. One game that is on Xtramath is Race The Teacher. When a student races the teacher they try to get the fact right before the teacher says it. This game is challenging and makes some kids nervous, but you get used to it. When someone successfully answers all the math facts in under 3 seconds they get a certificate of achievement. When a student gets their certificate that means they are on the next level. When the student is done with multiplication you’re on the last level division. Our class should do this every night to increase accuracy and speed. Xtramath is a decent website to go to for basic fact practice. By Casey Laliberte
Weekly Centers Every week room 13 has fun with weekly centers. We practice our grammar skills at the technology center. Currently we are practicing plural and the game is called Plural Girls. Room 13 also has an awesome vocabulary word search and a dominoes game that has vocabulary words and definition on each of them. The writing activity is fun. The centers are fun because they change weekly so we’re never board! Room13 has cool weekly centers. Norah Patel
Journal Journal is something we do in room 13.Every morning the class has to write about the journal entry or topic that Ms.Engasser puts on the board. We write in our journal after we are done with Math and Edit as a part of our morning work. One example close to Thanksgiving, the journal entry was to write about what we were thankful for. Journal is fun to write in because we get to share our thoughts and ideas. Journal is a big hit in room 13. Madeline Folan
BFG Our first read aloud book was a spectacular book called The BFG (BFG stands for Big Friendly Giant.) Ms. Engasser reads the book aloud almost everyday before lunch. Ms. Engasser uses funny accents for Sophie and the BFG. The BFG is an astonishing book you should read it! Logan Ducker
Halloween Craft In October, we did a fun Halloween craft that Mrs. Ducker came up with . The class made a Halloween picture frame, so we can enjoy Halloween pictures. We had some other helpers; Mrs. Webster, Mrs. Qualter, Mrs. Beaudet, and Mrs. Dolan. We used wooden frames for the base of our craft. Then, we glued cute and scary Halloween paper scraps to cover the frame. Then we decoupaged the wood, and then we put decopageon the paper to make it shiny. I loved this craft because it was fun and creative. CailynMurphy
Moose Hill In October we went on a field trip to Moose Hill in Sharon, MA. We had a little bus ride and we were excited to learn about the Wampanoag. First we went to the section where we learned what/how they ate. Then we made necklaces where each color bead represented something to tell a story. Next we heard a story or legend and went in a wetu(a Wampanoag home). Last, we played a game or two (that was most kids favorite center). If you ever go to Moose Hill you will have tons of fun. The Pilgrims In November we learned about the Pilgrims. Our class has been learning about the Pilgrims and the challenges they faced on the ship. We also learned how different they dressed from how we dress now. Right before Thanksgiving we went on a fun Scholastic scavenger hunt online. We got a sheet of paper with questions and we had to find the answers by researching the website. For example, where they slept and what they ate. The class watched mini movies, read letters from the Pilgrims and much more. We had a great time learning about the Pilgrims. Ashley Griffin
Thanksgiving Crafts Making Thanksgiving crafts was an exciting thing the class did right before Thanksgiving. For the turkey craft the class painted a coffee filter with water colors, and folded it out for its feathers. Another craft was a Thanksgiving card. The whole class had an orange piece of construction paper and glued a poem inside. Then the class put 5 corn kernels inside a plastic bag, and wrapped it with yarn and stapled it inside. The 5 corn kernels represented something that the Pilgrims were thankful for. It was an awesome craft our class did in November to celebrate Thanksgiving. Juliana Webster
Interviewing a Turkey In November, our class “Interviewed a Turkey” as a creative writing activity. First we were partnered up to start brainstorming ideas like character names and a story. We wrote in an interview style and some students made it funny. Some kids decided to let the turkey live and some wanted the turkey to be eaten. Each interview was different and unique. Last we shared the interviews with the class. Writing this interview was great. By GarettQualter
Voki Vokiis an interactive computer program to design and create avatars that can speak. We can put clothes on our avatar. We can also change their hair and eye color. We can also put on jewelry. The program lets each student type what they want the avatar to say, or the student can record their voice with a microphone. We have used Voki for a book review. The project was exciting and Voki was a better choice than writing out a book review. Our class is looking forward to using Voki more throughout the year. By: Drew Beaudet
Our Class Library In our classroom we have our own class library. At D.E.A.R.[ Drop Everything And Read] time, we pick our books[ 3 only]. Each student picks a book,[ on their level], and we read for 10 minutes. Our class is allowed to pick one book on their level, above 1 level, and 1 below level. Our reading levels go from 20 to 60. Most of our class likes Roald Dahl books. The library is organized by series, author, and mixed. Some examples are: 39Clues, 40; StarWars, 50 and Biographies. Our class library is clean, neat and easy to get books from! By: Ian Conover
Fabulous Fun Friday Every month we have Fabulous Fun Friday for thirty minutes. In our class we have 5 canned games. One game is Skip Bo. Another game is UNO. It's just like the card game with dice. A third game is Apples to Apples. It's a good game to play with the family. Phase 10 is another one. It could be used as a late night game. Swipe is a good card game too. We divide into groups aned rotate. We spend about 15 minutes at each group. Fabulous Fun Fridayis entertaining. Declan Hunter
Cursive Handwriting In September we started Learning Cursive. We use a cursive hand writing book. We are almost half way through the book , and we know lots of letters. The letters Y and S were really hard to write , and our class still needs lots of practice. Even though it’s challenging. James Dolan
“I’m through what can I do “I’m through what can I do” is a part of our day that includes activities you can do when you are done with your classwork. We try puzzles like Suduko in the classroom, which is challenging but fun. Also our class has state fact cards to read. Our class has a large map to learn the states which is also available to use. Another neat activity is a book with all the Presidents, so we can learn the president names and pictures. “I’m through what can I do” is a great thing to do when your work is finished. Incentive Program Our incentive program is kid-friendly and helps us succeed demonstrating expected behavior. The class picks a prize to earn. This usually takes about 2 months. So far we have earned Gum Day and are working towards aloha day. ( Hawaiian day) We try to spell out the prize’s name. In order to earn a letter we have to earn 10 stars. There is a little box on the blackboard where we draw the stars. We write the letters beside it to keep track. Stars can be earned by certain behaviors such as being on task, working together, and helping others. Certain behaviors such as being off task or disrespect can cause us to lose stars. The incentive program helps everyone in our class become a better learner. Richie O’Brien
Reading Buddies Reading Buddies is an activity we do every Thursday with Ms. Kirk’s class. First we pick a book to read to a kindergartener. Then half the class takes turns going down to the K room, and the other half stays in Rm.13. Most people have partners and the kindergartener chooses a book. Sometimes when we are reading it is hard to keep them listening, but we love it. Reading Buddies is very fun. By Alex Lee
Math centers Our class has fun math centers every week. A few games are the Dice game, Place value cards, ENO board, Laptops and ‘’Pop!’’ There is a rolling the dice game that helps us say basic facts quickly. Another center is place value deck card game. It helps us ‘’practice what the value of the number ca. It helps us practice what the value of the number is, and practice compare and order numbers. The next center is ‘’Pop.’’ It helps us with basic addition and subtraction facts. The ENO board is used to go on Ed. City. Two fun games on it are Rounding Rabbit and Stig in the Bus. Last center is on the laptops. We explore Educational games on the laptops. One great game is Math Man. The Math centers are really fun, and we look forward to them every week. Jessica Tosone
Solar System In October we learned about the solar system .Our class learned a large amount about the planets. In class, we did an activity called Planet Quest. Ms. Engasser was mission control. She broke us in groups. Every group had to find facts about their planet, each group made a Mission Badge and named our special Mission. Then we met back together to share are information. Those were some things we did to learn about our solar system. John Colleran
