Culture • Definition: • The way of life, especially the general customs, of a particular group of people at a particular time.

Festival Definition A festival is an event, usually and ordinarily staged by a local community, which centers on and celebrates some unique aspect of that community . A special day or period, usually in memory of a religious event, with its own social activities, food or ceremonies. From Oxford Advance learner dictionary.
Function Festivals serve to meet specific needs and entertainment. These celebration offer a sense of belonging for religious, social, or geographical groups. Modern festivals focus on cultural or ethnic groups. In past times, festivals were times to transfer certain knowledge to the next generation. Historic feasts often provided a means for unity among families and people.

Seasonal festivals Seasonal festivals are determined by the solar cycle and it's effects on food. Ancient Egyptians would celebrate the seasonal flood caused by the Nile River, a form of irrigation, which provided fertile land for crops. In the Alps, in autumn the return of the cattle from the mountain pastures to the stables in the valley is celebrated as Almabtrieb.
Seasonal festivals Bassant With the advent of spring Basant Festival is celebrated with pomp and show in mid February every year in Lahore. In other words this is the spring festival.
Religious festival Muslims celebrate two Eid according to Islamic calendar . Eid-ul-Fitar Eid-ul- Azha Nauroze: (21-23 March) Celebrated only in Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu and Chitral.

Defense of Pakistan Day: (06 September) Parades and exhibitions of military equipment at Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi. Visits to the war memorials. (No national holiday except Armed Forces) Air force Day: (07 September) Display of latest aircraft of Pakistan Air force and air shows at Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.
Birthday of Allama Muhammad Iqbal: .(09 November) National Poet. • Birth Anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam : (25 December )
Cultural festival Shandur Polo Festival Traditional polo tournament between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit is being held on the highest polo ground of the world - The Shandur Pass (Chitral district). Allied activities include fold music, folk dances and other competitions. A tent village along Shandur Lake will be set up in cooperation with the local administration.
