B. Inference • The deer population increased until 1923, then it started to decrease. The decrease could be do to the fact that over the years the food for the deer became scarce. • The deer became the top of the food chain.
Part IV: Steps to the Scientific Method • 1. Identify the problem • 2. Research • 3. Form a Hypothesis • 4. Experiment • 5. Make Observations • 6. Draw Conclusions • 7. Accept, Reject, or Change your Hypothesis • 8. Communicate the results
Part V: Experimenting • 1. Is there carbon dioxide in the pond water? • 2. If there is carbon dioxide present then there is a snail present as compared to having an Elodea leaf present. • 3. A snail was placed in jar 2. A piece of Elodea, a plant, was placed in jar 3. Both a snail and a piece of Elodea were placed in jar 4. All four jars were sealed with paraffin wax and placed in the light for two days.
4. At the end of the two days, the water in jar 2 was green. The water in jar 3 was blue. The water in jar 4 was blue at the top and green at the bottom. • 5. That is the control • 6. The snails give off carbon dioxide, plants take in carbon dioxide, jar 4 showed both the intake and expulsion of carbon dioxide.
