What is it about? • The course is written by a team of experts from schools, universities and industry • It is an up to date course which incorporates the latest developments in Chemistry into it’s topics • There are a variety of different activities which vary the way in which chemistry can be learned as part of a structured and well organised course

  3. This course has been used as a model for all new A level courses starting in September 2008. It is based on how chemistry is used in the world around us

  5. Chemical storylines • This discusses how chemistry is used in everyday life and in the world around us as well as the significant discoveries over the centuries • We find out about interesting careers in Chemistry

  6. Some topics … • Elements of life • Developing Fuels • Elements from the Sea • The Atmosphere • Polymer Revolution

  7. Chemical Ideas • This discusses how chemistry is used in everyday life • They explain major chemical principles which are essential to understand and appreciate the everyday context of the course

  8. Activities • Practical laboratory activities • Assessed practical skills • ICT exercises and applications • Molecular modelling • Data analysis • Presentations • Project work in teams • Field work and visits to Chemical Industry • Assignments

  9. What previous knowledge is needed? • All students should have followed GCSE Science (core) and Additional Science or GCSE Chemistry • Everyone who takes part should achieve at least a grade C at GCSE
