Body Armor By Kevin Renner
Introduction • Every civilization has had developed some sort of armor • But it’s purpose has remained unchanged
Globalization 1.0 • We start to see stronger Metals. • A lot of drawbacks • Heavy • Poor visibility
Globalization 2.0 • Focus on armored vehicles • Ships – French 1859, La Glorie • Trains • Tanks-English Mark I in WWI
Globalization 3.0 • Two types of Armor of 21 century • Ballistic cloth • Kevlar and Spectra • Ceramic or Metal plates • Dragon skin
Shear-thickening Fluid • Colloid that forms hydroclusters • Made of Silica (sand and quartz) and polyethylene glycol • 2 or 3 milliseconds upon impact • Increase density by 20% • 3.5 times stronger than Kevlar
Magnetorheological Fluid/ MR • Also in dampen impact of car shock absorbers, bridges and prosthetic limbs • Redistributes Iron molecules to magnetic interference • Stab Resistant • Will need electricity to activate
